Training – Leadership in Strategic Health Communication – deadline extended

You can still apply for the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs’ Leadership in Strategic Health Communication Workshop, June 5-June 23. Deadline for applications is April 1. This is a four-week intensive learning opportunity for decision makers, administrators, health educators, program officers, and donor agency field staff.. There are three weeks of classroom learning followed by an optional one week of coaching with selected public health and communication experts. New! Global Technical Briefs from INFO Offer Programming Tips

Global Health Technical Briefs summarize the most important information on a timely reproductive health topic in two pages, and pinpoint the implications for public health programs. The INFO Project at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs publishes the briefs in association with the MAQ Initiative and contributing authors from a variety of organizations. INFO is pleased to announce these recently published briefs in the series.

• Family Planning for Married Adolescent Girls : Avoiding early childbearing is crucial to preventing maternal and infant mortality in married adolescent girls. Reproductive Health programs can do more to meet the high unmet need for family planning among these vulnerable youths.
• First Aid for Women and Newborns: Where Home Birth is Necessary or Common: The Home Based Life Saving Skills approach, developed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives, helps community teams provide safe, acceptable and feasible emergency care during home births.

YouthNet’s Youth Peer Education Toolkit

The Training of Trainers Manual is a curriculum tool to prepare master-level peer education trainers. The manual uses participatory techniques based on a variety of theoretical frameworks to ensure that future trainers are skilled and confident in their abilities to train peer educators and serve as informed resources for their peers. This Training of Trainers Manual is part of an expanded Youth Peer Education Toolkit sponsored by the Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) project. For hard-back printed copies of the manual, send a request with an explanation of how you plan to use it in actual peer education activities. Limited copies are available, and will be mailed to those in the best position to apply it to their programs. Looking for Avian Flu Materials!

Has your organization produced Avian Flu materials? If so, please upload them directly into the database of the Media/Materials Clearinghouse, or respond to this email and attach the materials with a brief description. We are actively collecting any Avian Flu materials produced by HCMN members and will be posting them on the HCMN website.
